Counselling For Children and Young People

Having worked with young people and families for nearly two decades (and as a parent myself) I know the unique demands, challenges and opportunities of family life for parents, children and young people.

I also know that counselling for children and young people needs to be different, which is why I offer developmentally appropriate counselling that focuses on the skills that children and young people need to thrive.

It is my belief that if children and young people can learn how to focus their attention, how to work with hard thoughts and feelings and how to act in ways that benefit themselves and those around them, they will enjoy their childhood and adolescence and grow into the people they yearn to be.

So counselling with children and young people is skills-focused, helping them to manage the hard things in life, focus on what matters and do what’s important to them.

I keep sessions shorter (30-45mins) and engage with children and young people in ways that meet their developmental needs (taking any neurodiversities into account).

Work with children and young people is usually focused, with a shorter number of sessions (usually 3-6) enough to help them to learn different ways of living that help them feel connected, alive and engaged in their lives.
