Many trauma survivors who desperately need therapeutic help miss out on effective support because of long wait times, out of pocket expenses and systems that make it hard to effectively connect with survivors who have been swimming in trauma, poverty and disadvantage their whole lives.

Our systems are geared towards the needs of middle class adults who have the resources to sit in a room with someone for an hour at a time and talk about their feelings, and for most survivors this simply is not possible or effective.

Working as a professional within the Family Support, Family Violence and Out of Home Care (OoHC) systems during the past two decades I have seen this gap first hand. It is my hope that Oli Doyle Counselling brings hope, compassion and skilled support to those who have been missing out.

A Responsive Approach

I meet clients where they’re at and adapt my support to meet their specific needs.

If this means breaking up an hour session into 20 minute chunks, that’s what we do.

If it means focusing on the immediate difficulty and leaving underlying issues for later, that’s what we do.

And if clients are unable to meet for a while because life gets in the way, I am ready to get back into the work when the time is right.

This means that if your service funds a certain number of sessions I will work with the client to make sure that time is used as effectively as possible, maximising the chances of positive changes.

A safe place to land…

A history of trauma is common to many clients in Family Services and other welfare programs, and not all clinicians have the knowledge, skills and compassion to meet people living inside trauma with care and respect.

Trauma survivors need safe relationships first, a space to unwind the pain and shame they carry gently and carefully, one breath at a time.

My approach to trauma is grounded, compassionate and evidence based, using elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Polyvagal Theory in a way that holds clients safely while allowing them to explore, ground and strengthen themselves over time.

Based on Dja Dja Wurrung Country in Bendigo, Victoria, I meet people online using a secure Telehealth platform accessible from any device. Outreach sessions can be arranged according to client needs.

Oli Doyle Counselling recognises this country as the unceded land of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and supports truth telling, treaty and reparations for the ongoing harms of European invasion.
